Title: Daydreaming
Description: This piece is a surreal representation of my experience with ADHD and Daydreaming. Daydreaming is a double edge sword. On one hand, your constantly thinking of new ideas. Creativity is constantly flowing through you. On the other hand I have work to do. I have class, I have a social life, and a life in reality I need to focus on, and yet I can’t just shut off that part of my brain. Getting lost in the creative flow is amazing when appropriate but being constantly stuck in your head and unable to ground yourself in reality is extremely unhealthy. Thus I wanted to portray this double edge sword through this piece. My skin, clothes, and hair gave a Matt finish, cementing them in realty, while the inside of my head and my eyes have a gloss finish, contrasting reality. Inside my head, the colors are sickly sweet, fun and saturated, yet at the same time spilling over into reality. I gave my self the hunched over, tired appearance of the everyday high school student while staring off into space to further push the idea of being lost in one’s head while in class. As this is a surrealist piece I wanted to keep the under glazing painterly and colorful, even in the skin, clothes, and hair, to unify and balance the piece.
